Offley & Stopsley Cricket Ground

The Ground is situated in the village of Offley in Hertfordshire, on the A505 half way between Luton and Hitchin.

Although the Cricket Ground and Pavilion are maintained by the club, the ground is owned by the Offley Social & Recreation Club. They provide facilities for showers, the bar and some essential maintanance equipment.

Cricket has been played at this ground for over 100 years. The current pavillion (pictured below) was 75 years old in 2006.

The Pitch

Our square comprises 11 strips, it is a hard wearing pitch and given good weather recovers quickly from the toughest games. We currently play 36 -40 games a year on it. As you may know this requires alot of maintenance. Much of this work is done by one of the players - Steve Bexfield, who treats the pitch with lots of TLC and spends rather more time than he care to mention attempting to keep the lawnmowers working.

We have a club night every Thursday evening from May to October 2006. All players are asked to attend to help prepare the ground for the weekends matches. Children are very welcome on these evenings when a number of players will be coaching. We have a hard wearing, high quality plastic strip to the side of the square as well as two mobile nets for practice one on the square and the other on the plastic strip, so practice is both realistic and safe

Then it's off to the bar.
