Offley & Stopsley CC 129-5 Vs Harpenden Dolphins 128 all out - 1st Sept

OSCC Won by 5 Wkts

On a day when the visitors took the meaning of friendly sledging to extremes, OSCC won at a canter to remain 2nd in the Saracens League Div 10 and keep the pressure on Ickleford II's ahead of the final weekend of the league season.

Stephen Bexfield won the toss and decided to field. Rizwan and Keeley opened the bowling and immediatley found their line and length. After 5 overs Keeley made the breakthrough, trapping Eull on the backfoot infront of the stumps. Rizan then tore a thigh muscle and had to be replaced mid over by J Cerasale. This forced change brought immediate dividends with the wicket of the other brother Eull, clean bowled. In his next over Cerasale clean bowled Laley with the score on 17-3.

M Downes now came to the crease and immediatly got into stride, hitting Keeley for a straight six, followed by a couple of edges for two and then a straight drive for four through the despairing drive of Chaudry. 14 of the over and Keeley was withdrawn from the attack, much to his frustration. Finally being faced with a batsman prepared to play a shot after a long season of flogging his guts out in front of obdurate, boring batsmen he trudged sadly to fine leg where he was to remain for the rest of the afternoon. to Cerasale's bowling. Dull.

Chaudry replaced Keeley and then came the moment the made a game of it. Downes smacked the first ball of his over straight to Keeley at deep mid off who went on to drop the easiest catch of the day. Downes went on to make 48 quickfire runs. Only one other Harpended player managed double figures all afternoon.

Chaudry bowled his usuall mix of eccentric deliveries mixed with some fast straight beauties and promptly went through the opposition like a knife through butter, finishing with figures of 13-3-47-6. Cerasale contin ued his marathan 18 over spell with 3 -28. They did indeed prove an irrestible combination.

Richie Barker and Bexfield went out to chase down the target prepared for anything that could be bowled at them. What they were not prepatred for was a constant stream of humourless, insulting sledging from a team that did not deserve to open their mouths considering they way they batted. Barker was given out LBW when on 32 and the score on 60. Out came Nathan Brodie to face the insults, some of which was quite vile especially that coming from Bonney - a man whose batting style was more akin to a pendulam than a shot. Brodie took no notice and played some lovely cricket on his way to a quick 29 before being well caught in the covers by Holden with the score on 115-3. Cutts and Lunney came and went without troubling the scorers , but it was all over when Cerasale and Chaudry came together and calmy scored the runs to bring victory before 5 O'Clock after only 27 overs. Considering the mouth of the visitors its hard to believe it took only 67 overs to thrash them.
