Offley & Stopsley CC Vs Steppingley CC - 2nd July 2006

OSCC Won by 152 runs

Mo Chaudry cracked his first century for the club to set up the demolition of Steppingly. Chaudry hammered the visiting attack to all parts of the Offley cricket ground as he smashed 147 from just 97 balls to help Offley reach a daunting total.

Mark Tattersall took the reigns as captain and struck gold when it mattered most by winning the toss on a scorching day. Tattersall elected to bat and Dave Bridgland and Gary Davison opened the innings. The pair shared a stand of 59 before falling in quick succession. Damien Sale came and went in quick fashion before leaving the stage to Chaudry and run-shy starlet Nathan Brodie.

Chaudry was quickly into his stride, dealing severely with anything short or over-pitched. Brodie was content to play himself in and let Chaudry have the bulk of the strike. With Brodie displaying unusual caution and restraint in trying to keep the ball on the ground, Chaudry was happy to flail away and send the ball out of the park with some frequency. The bowlers had no answer and were reduced to the status of cannon fodder with Onodera and Kennard being treated to some particularly brutal treatment. Landmarks began to fall thick and fast as the pair brought up the hundred partnership, Chaudry reached his century and Brodie passed 50 for the first time in 2006. The stand was worth 216 when Chaudry danced down the wicket to be beaten in the flight and was smartly stumped for 147. There was still time for a quick cameo from Phil Gourd (an unbeaten 10 from just five balls, giving him the best strike rate of any of the Offley batsmen) before Offley closed on 294-4 from 40 overs.

Doomed to almost certain defeat before they even began their quest for 295, Steppingly were pinned back by solid bowling from Rizwan and Paul Bridgland. The pair shared three wickets before crafty veteran Cliff Large marked his return to the colours with a brace of wickets. Large returned from a sabbatical in 2005 to mark his first appearance in almost two years with impressive figures of 2-26 from eight overs. Tattersall picked up a wicket before Gourd ran through the tail, claiming 3-32 from six typically mixed overs to help dismiss the visitors for 142 and seal an emphatic 152-run victory.
