Saturday Fixtures 2006
SARACENS SUCCESS
Memories of Offley & Stopsleys storming run to the Saracens League Division 11 title were revived with the release of the official league averages.
The qualification in the bowling averages was 20 wickets and four of Offleys bowlers finished in the top ten with Richie Barker striking a blow for all slow bowlers around the world by taking 35 wickets and leading the league with an average of 9.97. Daniel Jordan finished fourth in the standings with Colin Keeley (seventh) and Gareth Mathewson (ninth) rounding off an impressive performance. Matthew Freeman forced his way on to the list by finishing 22nd in the rankings, a fitting reward for his hard work during the season where as he is still prepared to tell anyone who will listen he did not miss a game. The five bowlers shared 138 wickets between them as they directed Offleys promotion charge.
Jordans brilliance with the bat ironically denied Offley the chance of a double success. Jordans average of 106.25 comfortably trumped the winning batsmans mark of 87.20 but he was ineligible for the award because he was only dismissed four times.
Batsmen had to complete five innings and score at least 200 runs to qualify and Barker was the highest Offley batsman to figure, finishing 16th, two places ahead of Mo Chaudry. Steve Bexfield will doubtless take solace from the fact that even though he failed to score a half century during the entire 2006 campaign he still managed to finish at number 45 in the rankings. Nathan Brodie (49th) also finished in the top 50.
